Well, because it New York Fashion week is so close we can smell it… it only fits to do a model profile of the model of the moment, Natasha Poly.

Poly, whose full name is Natalia Polevshchikova, was discovered after winning a model search competition in Moscow.

You may recognize Poly, as her professional modeling career started in 2004 and she has appeared in many ad campaigns including Gucci, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Sonia Rykiel, Nine West, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Poly has also walked the runway for brands such as Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Gucci, Versace and Victoria’s Secret, along with other designers. She has been on the cover of Vogue ten times.

Last September, Poly was featured on  the covers of Vogue Russia, Vogue Hellas and Vogue Paris, as well the Gucci “Indy” bag campaign, and the main Gucci campaign.

She is signed with the Women Management Modeling Agency in New York.

Is anyone else as excited for the new 90210? Although the show is a little bit before my time, I do remember more of the older episodes, and my sister (who is 3 years younger than me) used to have 90210 marathons just last summer.

The iconic show was packed with beautiful people from Beverly Hills, and even then there were rumoured eating disorders, i.e. Tori Spelling who once admitted she ate a bag of cheetoes and a diet coke and that was all.

Anyways, I’m sure you all have seen the new cast. Is it just me, or do they look incredibly thin?

I think Shenae Grimes, the first girl, might actually just be naturally thin, but the second girl, Jessica Stroup just looks way too thin for her body frame. And Annalyne McCord just looks like she is wearing a wig. (3rd girl)

Either way, I think I smell another bobble-headed anorexia trend coming through for fall.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale welcomed Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale into the world.

The couple’s second child together was born at the Cedars–Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, weighing in at 3.77 kilograms.

Their first son, Kingston is age 2. Rossdale also has a daughter, Daisy, with fashion designer Pearl Lowe. Stefani, 38, and Rossdale, 40, married in 2002.

Stefani will be busy with her new bundle, as rumours have it that her label L.A.M.B does not appear on the schedule for New York Fashion Week shows in September.

Trash cans for auction

Helena Christensen partnered up with Danish design company VIPP to create custom trash bins for auction to benefit The Food Bank for New York City and Chernobyl Children’s Project International.

Christensen enlisted the help of Francisco Costa, Simon Doonan, Alice Temperley, Christy Turlington, Michael Bastian, Frederic Fekkai, Mena Suvari, among others to create and design over 30 waste bins for the event. 

The bins will be on display at the Conran Shop from September 4-17^th for a public viewing and pre-bidding.

For those who wish to continue bidding can do so at The VIPP Auction for Helena Christensen event, being held on September 18th.

 Christensen’s bin features a graphic style, while Temperley’s is girly and pink and Costa’s is chicly minimalist.

The Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio gave birth to a baby girl on the 24^th of August in her native Brazil. The little angel is named Anja Louise Ambrosio and her father is businessman Jamie Mazur. Jamie and Alessandra have been dating since 2005 and this is their first child. “We have now felt a new kind of love and joy that we never knew existed,” the 27-year-old model says. Alessandra continued modeling during her pregnancy and will also appear in the much-anticipated Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in November. Supermodel Kate Moss and Italian-born photographer Mario Sorrenti landed the cover of the French fashion magazine, Purple for its Fall/Winter 2008 issue. Kate is wearing a very extravagant and sexy black Balmain, single-shouldered dress. Her ex-boyfriend Mario Sorrenti, who is now a famous photographer, is kneeling down naked at her feet and holding on to her passionately. I love the way Mario is grabbing Kate! Many people describe this photo shoot as “orgasmic.” I totally agree and I boldly note that this is one of my favourite covers ever. There is something so “grabbing” about the photo, besides Mario’s grabbing. Many viewers complain on the internet forums about the writing on Kate’s face but in my opinion, the photo is not about the face. It is about the passion, power and dominance that each of us encounters in our life. Hot!

JACOB nationwide Model Search

JACOB is holding a nationwide model search to find the face for the new JACOB fragrance next month.

They are holding casting calls in 3 major cities across Canada; Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. The first 500 participants at each casting will receive a complimentary ‘goodie’ bag.

The winner will be part of a professional photo shoot and be featured in the 2009 JACOB fragrance campaign; a one-year modeling contract by Folio and $1500 towards building a portfolio. They will also get $500 worth of Smashbox cosmetics, a $500 Shop! Card from Cadillac Fairview and enjoy a $3,000 JACOB wardrobe!

Aspiring models can go to the casting calls being held in Montreal at Carrefour Laval September 13^th; in Vancouver at the Pacific Centre September 20^th; or in Toronto at the Toronto Eaton Centre September 27^th. It will run between 11-3p.m.

Serge Lutens has just launched his first cosmetics line at Harvey Nichols, London last week.

Luten’s new collection to the UK, Serge Luten ‘Neccessaire de Beaute’, has been created in collaboration with Shiseido.

His new cosmetic line is cased in chic black lacquered packaging, baring the hallmark of great design and the expertise of a professional a make – up artist.

Some of his products being sold are a kohl eye liner – a rich pot of inky black liner that comes with a double-ended tool to apply: one end for fine lines, the other for smudging. The lipsticks, available in the ‘hot for the moment’ berry shades, are cleverly smaller than your average lipstick. This ingenious design means they will fit perfectly in clutch bags with room to spare!

Luten started his career as a photographer for top fashion magazines in Paris. He then turned his expertise to make-up in the sixties, where he produced a make-up line for Christian Dior in 1967.

In 1980 he was appointed Creative and Art Director of Shiseido where he started creating his world-famous fragrances. He created some of Shiseido’s most infamous scents including the ‘Nombre Noir’ in 1982.

Shortly after he opened his own perfumery ‘Les Salons du Palais Royal’.
